Blitz the borders
Start by clearing pathways of weeds, and remove dead annuals like begonias and geraniums. Feed the borders and hedges with fertilizer and add a thick layer of mulch to keep moisture in and future weeds away.
Refresh surfaces with paint
Once all surfaces are fixed and cleaned up, it’s time to stain or paint them to protect them from the elements over the coming months. Why not experiment by adding pops of colour to your garden furniture, fences or shed? You could even get creative with a wall mural or painting some of your plant pots. Start potting up plants
A nice way to transform your back door is by simply planting up a few pot plants and hanging baskets. They add instant colour and spring cheer. You don’t have to stick to flowers. Why not add some herbs or grow some tomatoes from seed?
Prepare your lawn for spring
Spring is a crucial time for lawn care and will determine whether you have a beautiful green lawn or not. Rake the grass deeply to remove dead blades and thatch, so that any new seed or fertilizer can penetrate properly. Make sure the area is firmed and level, ready for sowing. If the site is shady, choose a shade-tolerant mix. If the lawn is going to get a lot of foot traffic or be used for playing, pick a hard-wearing mix. If you just need to repair a bare or damaged patch of grass, opt for a seed that matches the surrounding turf. Overseed bald patches and apply slow-release nitrogen fertiliser to give the grass a boost.
