So what is your number as an estate agent? No not your telephone number but your commission split. Can you beat full commission less royalties and growth share (6% and 2%) leaving you with a net of 92% commission? Yes that’s a 92/8 split! It is entirely possible and I know this because I have CAPPED and I earned 92% on my deals. But I am working towards my CAP this year and I have till June then I start again. It’s a great option if you are a seasoned agent and you are making more than 6 sales a year.

Independence means different things to different estate agents
For me, independence means it’s my name and my brand out there. I know what needs to be done to become successful and I know what I need to do to be able to stay at the top of my game. I have all the help I need when I need it, but simply I like to be left alone to do my own thing. I want to do my thing with little interference and have the support of my leadership team when I need them. I navigate how and where I find my own stock. I navigate the mandates and the property condition report and I navigate my own mandates. I list my own properties and I do my own viewings. I take my own offers and I submit my own sales. I am what I like to think of as a truly independent agent.
But I have a team that has my back when I need them
No matter how seasoned you are there may always be something that jumps up at you and you need help. I am pleased to say that KW Select is one of the best market centres in SA. The reason I say that is our KW Select support start have been nominated for the most coveted awards within Keller Williams. It takes energy and commitment to even get nominated. My guys or my peeps are simply there when I need them to be there. Nice bunch of people too the kind you call your friends.
What are the benefits of being and independent estate agent?
If we look at the Cambridge, Dictionary at what the word independence means, it says it all and for me that’s the way I like it. Well, I know what I need to do and simply I like the fact that I can work remotely. I am responsible and accountable for my financial future. I am accountable for the money I bring home each month to support my family. Nobody else. This is a tough role and it goes up and down. I love that Keller Williams offers me the ability to work totally independently. I also know that this is a lonely role. I know how much I look forward to listings or valuations because I get to go out and do my thing and more importantly see and meet people.
But being an independent estate agent does not mean I never see my peeps
No. My peeps are there when I need them. I see my peeps when I pop in for a training session, when I deliver training and when I just need a hug. My peeps are there for me through thick and thin. KW Select is my tribe and that’s my vibe.
